The poster track of the ESWC2009 will provide an opportunity for presenting late-breaking results, ongoing research projects, and speculative or innovative work in progress. Posters are intended to provide authors and participants with the ability to connect with each other and to engage in discussions about the work. Technical posters, reports on semantic systems, descriptions of completed work, and work in progress are equally welcome.

Workshops Calls

The ESWC is the leading European Conference on Theory, Practice and Applications of Semantic Web Technologies, constantly attracting a high number of high quality submissions participants from academia and industry.

Besides the main technical program, ESWC will host workshops on topics related to the Conference theme. Workshops promote scientific exchange amongst researchers interested in a particular topic and act as a meeting point for the community. The workshops should provide the opportunity to present and discuss ongoing work and new ideas in subfield of Semantic Web research.

Of particular interest are workshop proposals with an interdisciplinary standpoint, proposals focusing on a specific technology of general interest, or gathering a sub-community.

The vision of the Semantic Web is to enhance today's Web by exploiting machine-processable metadata. The explicit representation of the semantics of data, enriched with domain theories (ontologies), will enable a web that provides a qualitatively new level of service. It will weave together a large network of human knowledge and makes this knowledge machine-processable. Various automated services will help the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing information in machine-understandable form. This network of knowledge systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems, which will be employed for various complex decision-making tasks. Semantic Web research can benefit from ideas and cross-fertilization with many other areas: Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Databases and Information Systems, Information Retrieval, Multimedia, Distributed Systems, Social Networks and Web Engineering. Many advances within these areas can contribute towards the realization of the Semantic Web.

The 6th Annual European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC2009) will present the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. In addition to the regular research and workshop programme, ESWC2009 invites tutorials on relevant topics of interest (see below). A tutorial should present the state of the art of a Semantic Web area, enabling attendees to fully appreciate the current issues, main schools of thought and possible application areas.

PhD Symposium

The ESWC2009 PhD Symposium will continue the successful series of PhD symposia collocated with the main Semantic Web conferences. The goal of the symposium is to provide a unique opportunity for PhD students to open up their work in front of other academics than their supervisors. They will be able to present their work and get feedback on their topic and approach from leading scientists in the field and from fellow students. Additionally, the forum will provide an opportunity to meet other students, to learn about their work and last, but not least, to discuss PhD related issues.
